  • Grapple with the basics no more!  By : Dan Brown
Capturing picture perfect photographs has never been quite as easy as digital photography makes it. Of course, you still have to pay attention to those essentials like choosing the right light conditions, the theme and everything that comes along with it. However, with digital technology, you still have the room to edit out those unforeseen errors and can allow yourself that extra bit of space which is invaluable if you aren't quite the wiz with your digital camera. But even though you may have spent hours selecting the editing software that is most conducive to your level of skill and requirements, it still isn't much good if you have to spend ages laboring over the bare essentials you need to give your images that much-needed makeover. And hence, it is vital that you master these few basics before you move on to handling those complicated maneuvers that will eventually aid you in re-mastering your images.

  • Photoshop: Layering to create an inimitable masterpiece  By : Dan Feildman
A perfect photograph is constituted of a number of elements light conditions, the amount of exposure and selecting the ideal lens and the filter. It is only when these factors are at their most optimal, that a flawless image is created. However, sometimes even the most talented and exacting of photographers may find that his image lacks a certain "Something" or that the photograph would have looked a lot better, had he just fined tuned a few elements. And hence he turns to editing, which allows him to correct any inadvertent flaws that mar his image while also saving him the time and cost that he would have had to invest of he chose to re-shoot the image. With the passage of time and development of technology, several new kinds of editing software have been developed, among which, the most noteworthy is Adobe Photoshop.

  • Start thinking more about your digital photography  By : Dan Feildman
Your digital camera exposure time determines how long your digital camera takes to record its picture. On a well-lit day, exposure times can be very short because plenty of light is available to help record a photograph. At nighttime, exposure time can increase dramatically due to the near absence of light. Although most digital cameras handle this adjustment automatically, you should learn how to adjust your exposure time by hand. Read your digital camera's manual for instructions.

So what are the mechanics of this "through the lens" shot to achieve the ghosting effect? 1. Stabilize the camera - using a tripod is best, a stable surface is a second option or, a steady hand as a last resort; 2. Set number of multiple exposures you require for the frame to (N) - usually 1 to 9; 3. For the roll of film in your SLR, determine the film speed (S); 4. Reset the camera film speed (Yes, you can override the setting) to (N S) or, if not an exact match, set it to the absolute closest speed ((N S) adjustment); 5. Take your picture, depressing the shutter button for a total count equalling the number of camera exposures you set in step "2".

The next tools are made for painting on the canvas freestyle. The first one of them is the Brush tool. The Brush tool is an old favorite for people that want to free hand draw things like they had a brush which they can decrease and increase the size of the contact point. You can also change the hardness of the stroke as well. This will show differences in contrast. The Pencil tool is just like a real pencil with some added tricks. The modes can give you complete freedom or help you make straight lines when you are trying to make objects. The last one is the Color Replacement tool. This handy tool allows you to select a color scheme on an image and replace it with something else. Unlike the bucket tool that will cover the complete area, this tool will allow you to draw in the replacement by hand as if you had a brush. Let's say if you had a blue cup in a picture. You can sample the blue color and decide to make it green. Then you just draw over the area of the cup and anything that is of the sampled color will turn green!

Photoshop is now one of the major computer programs around. The basis of it all, however, is the photographic image. Very often the quality of the original image can get overlooked or can be considered unimportant. We hear sentences like: "Oh that'll do - we'll fix it later in Photoshop". Perhaps it can, but starting off with a better photograph in the first place can save a lot of trouble later. Well begun is half done. Here is the first of a series of tips to improve basic photography. Have a strong foreground, as well as the distance, and if possible have subject matter in the foreground, the middle-distance and the far distance. Looking through an archway or standing by a tree so that the branches frame the picture will give a strong foreground and serve to give the photograph a good impression of the depth there will be in the actual scene. Other objects can be found in the country to have a similar effect, such as flowering shrubs, gates, pieces of farm machinery or perhaps a charging bull.

  • Getting to know editing digital photography  By : Dan Brown
The resolution of your computer's monitor can greatly affect the outcome of your photos. This is the amount of pixels there are on the screen. The more there are, generally, the better the quality of the images. Making sure you have a monitor that is suited for photo editing is an important part of the process. However, you must remember that certain resolutions are meant for certain sized monitors. A large resolution on a small monitor makes everything too small, whereas the opposite makes everything too big. Make sure you know what resolution your monitor is made for. The display resolution of a digital television or computer display typically refers to the number of distinct pixels in each dimension that can be displayed. Some commentators also use this term to indicate a range of input formats that the display's input electronics will accept and often include formats greater than the screen's native grid size even though they have to be down-scaled to match the screen's parameters. An example of pixel shape affecting "resolution" or perceived sharpness is displaying more information in a smaller area using a higher resolution, which makes the image much clearer.
  • Getting those expert shots just got easier  By : Dan Feildman
Normally our eyes compensate for lighting conditions with different color temperatures. A digital camera needs to find a reference point which represents white. It will then calculate all the other colors based on this white point. For instance, if a halogen light illuminates a white wall, the wall will have a yellow cast, while in fact it should be white. So if the camera knows the wall is supposed to be white, it will then compensate all the other colors in the scene accordingly. Most digital cameras feature automatic white balance whereby the camera looks at the overall color of the image and calculates the best-fit white balance. However these systems are often fooled especially if the scene is dominated by one color, say green, or if there is no natural white present in the scene. Most digital cameras also allow you to choose a white balance manually, typically sunlight, cloudy, fluorescent, incandescent etc. Prosumer and SLR digital cameras allow you to define your own white balance reference. Before making the actual shot, you can focus at an area in the scene which should be white or neutral gray, or at a white or gray target card. The camera will then use this reference when making the actual shot.

There are only two things you have too know about the ExtendScript Toolkit program right now: Select target application, ExtendScript must know which application you are writing the script for. In the top left dropdown menu select Adobe Photoshop CS2 and if asked if you want top start it choose yes. Running script, to run a script you have written you press the button that looks like a play button. Reference documents All objects have different properties that can be set and methods that can be executed and right now you probably don't know any of these, this is where the reference documents come in. The reference document for JavaScript contains information about all objects available in your scripts. Start with a blank photoshop document of size 1024*768 and white background. Choose the brush "rough round bristle" from the toolbar. Create a new layer and draw some lines. Right click on the new layer and choose "blending options". Choose the values. DROP SHADOW INNER GLOW BEVEL AND EMBOSS; For "texture", choose "satin" as the pattern. TEXTURE Now add some motion blur to this layer from filters > blur > motion blur. Similarly, add gaussian blur also to this layer with the radius around 72. Not so catchy yet. Well try this. Change the background color of the default layer as black by choosing Edit > Fill from menu. Now look at the output. Ahh, that looks much better, isn't it ? You can add some text to this texturized background if you wish.

The Photoshop plug-ins which are available can help perform tasks much faster and more efficiently than performing these tasks by hand. The 3D plug-ins are used to create 3D images and type very quickly and elegantly. The color management Photoshop plug-ins can create new colors to correspond to the printer that you are using, or the monitor that you are using to create your graphics. The digital asset management plug-ins are used to organize all of the digital images that you have created so that finding the correct image is much easier than without it. The photographic ones give many different professional lens techniques that you can apply to any picture to create amazing effects. The basic idea is to either copy the Background Layer and make any adjustment directly to it (color adjustments, sharpening, bluring, contrast, exposure, etc.) or make that alteration in an adjustment layer. Once you've made the adjusted layer (either using a duplicated layer or a true adjustment layer) then Go Overboard!! I mean it, allow yourself to go way sharp, way blurry, way magenta, way saturated, whatever you're doing, do it more than needed.

Wedding photography is also concerned with the portrait photography for a bride. Most brides will have an individual portrait of them in their bridal dress taken to be displayed at the wedding and later at the bride's home. If an entire package is bought, from engagement photos to reception photos, a bridal portrait is included. For many families of the bride, this portrait alone is one that they have dreamed of ever since the woman was a little girl. To capture this vision is very important and needs to be handled with great care and concern. The wedding photography business is a hot and lucrative occupation to be in. If attention to detail is given, a photographer can become well known and make a very good income by capturing intimate moments of a new relationship just beginning. Even though a photographer is behind the lens, the action they see will be caught for lifetimes to enjoy.

  • Getting to know how to edit digital photography is important  By : Dan Brown
Adobe's Photoshop software is a very powerful image editing program that is by far the market leader for editing image files. I use Photoshop extensively when creating, and editing images for the web sites that I design. Almost all professional photographers and printers also use Photoshop to create all of the wonderful images that appear in magazines, billboards, and even on television. I am not the best artist in the world, but with Photoshop I have enough power to create brilliant images with tools that are built-in to the software. The coolest thing about Photoshop is that even as powerful as it is out of the box, there are many different plug-ins to make Photoshop even more powerful. The Photoshop plug-ins can be grouped into a few major categories which include 3D, color management, digital asset management, photographic, retouching, and special effects.

Well now, we consider a few accessories; let's move on to cameras since both accessories and cameras combine. We spoke earlier in different articles regarding flashguns; however, I will bring this up once more. Come cameras have hot-shoes which enable the user to connect to a flashgun which will enhance photo take. There are not many people that don't like to travel. The vast majority of people that travel will want to take pictures while they are away. The most convenient type of camera on the market today is the digital camera. With a digital camera, you won't have to spend a lot of money for film and processing and you can even see the pictures the minute that you shoot them. If there is a frame that you don't like, simply erase it and start over!

  • Learning Photoshop the fast and easy way  By : Dan Feildman
In order to have a fully color controlled environment you must have all devices displaying or printing color, profiled. How is this accomplished? Color management software (CMS) takes readings from your specific devices and compares their color with reference files of what color "should be" as defined by the ICC. For example, to profile a scanner you would scan in what is called an IT8 target. This scan is then compared with a reference file by the CMS. The differences between what the reference file says the color should be, and what the color your device actually output is meat of the profile. Basically, a profile says what's not perfect about your particular device. If your scanner always seems to scan things in a little green, or your printer always seems to print things with a magenta cast-these are the things that are taken into account when color profiling your devices. To complicate matters a little further, this process also takes into account the differences in color between various paper and ink combinations.
  • Overcome difficult obstacles in Digital Photography  By : David Peters
There are certain features on modern digital cameras that you can live without. Two closely related features in that category are digital zoom and interpolated resolution. Both rely on the same principle, and it is definitely something better left to the editing software on your computer. When on the subject of digital cameras, interpolation is just a term for a computer's best guess as to what should happen when you try to turn one large pixel into more than one smaller pixels. The computer (whether it's your home PC, a dedicated graphics machine at a photo lab, or the chip in your camera) uses mathematical formulas that try to guess, based on the colors of surrounding pixels, what the new substitute pixels should look like. For example, if a series of black pixels in a line on a white background are doubled, the pixels added between the black pixels will be black, and those between the white pixels will be white.

Color Correction: You can change the color of your image and balance the overall exposure of your images in a number of ways. The most common is by using the levels function or the curves. Here you can gently touch up your photo making the dark areas darker and the lighter areas lighter to achieve greater or lesser contrast. There are countless other methods and techniques you can use with Photoshop to better your images without having them look like they have been altered. Because the Clone Stamp's function is to subtly replace one area of pixels with another, you don't need its brush tip to be shaped like a rubber duck, for example! However you can use the Brush Preset picker to arm yourself with a variety of creatively-shaped brushes, should your project require them. Working smarter with the Brush Preset picker means maximising its potential. If you're not already familiar with this interface.

Sometimes, clear lines that separate the images in the panorama may appear. It is possible to blend the lines so that they disappear. Select the Advance Blending option located at the right of the Photomerge window, then select Preview. Inconsistencies in color will be calculated by the program. At this point, the images will blend together. Photoshop will combine all the individual images for your panoramic into a single layer. If you select the Keep as Layers option it is easier to edit each image individually. This is a great help if one of the images is brighter or darker then the other images. You can select that image in layers and adjust the brightness for just that image. It is a good idea to save the layers as a .psd file so that you can always come back and correct any mistakes or make any changes later. It's a real pain to have to redo everything from scratch just if you made a mistake or want to change something later. You can also distort the pictures so that the scene will look like it is in perspective. Choose the Perspective option on the bottom of Settings. You can also do this by choosing Set Vanishing Point in the Photomerge window, then click to an area in the panorama.

To build an apocalypse scene start with: First stage of project is to find and refine source photos of destruction references connected with our subject ... search key word is destroyed, rubble, bombed and etc. you can find very nice pics for free, just look around! Now we select finded materials and search useful areas of destrucion on photos and composite it with our source. But first we must correct the perspective with standard transform tools in Photoshop like scale, rotate, skew and etc. Next step is to do a ground from green grass. This process its very easy to do, i use some changes in Hue and Saturation value and sharpness of image to expose mud. As you know in Net you can find very nice pics for free and composite them in to our image like this hole. Sometimes image not have only one element to composite, like this below shows the birds and clouds. In this case I use clouds to make smoke from factory shaft. This is the end stage of project with glass shattered window frame. Final Photoshop compositing have 32 different layers with various blending types. Almost whole work is done in Photoshop except, color correction and sun lens effect which I create in Eyeon Digital Fusion a full-featured, node-based compositing system with Knoll Light Factory plugin.
  • Awesome Tips that will help you with Digital Photography  By : Dan Feildman
One of the more important aspects of the camera is the lens. There are several different types a particular one is the 12mm TOKINA lens is a 24mm lens designed to meet wide-angle needs, ultra wide depictions, superlative wide-angle ranges, and has a colorful outlook overall. The downside is you will pay around $500, but if you want quality, the price is worth it. If you are searching for an expert lens, you want to keep the highest width and zoom in mind. The lowest priced lens often encounter many problems, which can become a hassle during photo shots. While considering lens you want to consider shutter speeds, defects, aberrations, elements, zoom, speed, mm, and the like. Some of the other types of lens include the fixed, zoom, wide-angled, standard, telephoto, and super zooms. While considering lenses, you also want to consider that photographers will use a Flashgun to get picture perfect effects. The flashguns includes a flash head, diffuser panel, focus assist lamp, test button, hot shoe mount, ready lamp, and control buttons. While the lens does it part in photography, the flashguns work to produce quality lighting for shoots.

A very important thing in this part of the process to remember is that you need to back up the picture first or save your changed picture to a different name. If you don't, you won't have a chance to use the original to edit. If you make a mistake at this point, you will be up the proverbial creek without a paddle! If you are going to print a picture, but don't want every piece of the image, then you need to crop it out. This is a basic step to take, especially if you want to enlarge an image, or only use part of the picture itself. You can easily crop (take out) outside areas of a photo, without being an expert at it! Absolute must haves when it comes to printing out a picture, are the proper printer and paper. Without these two items, printing out pictures can be impossible! They don't need to be the most expensive items you can find, but you will want them to be a good quality and easy to use.

Lighting effects - a change in the lighting can dramatically alter the mood of a photograph. In the past, photographers either had to wait for the sun to be just perfect or make use of special lighting in order to achieve the effect that they need. With lighting Photo Shop effects tutorials, you can adjust the lighting of a photograph even after it is taken. Think of the possibilities! You can take the picture of a sunset even in the middle of a cloudy day. You can light up the subject of a photograph even without using a flash. Photo Shop effects tutorials will even teach you how to make it look like you are living on an alien planet, by adding 2 different colored suns to your picture. Choosing photo-editing software can be difficult. Windows comes with rudimentary tools that will help you with your photos. But you'll need more if you plan on doing more than resizing and rotating photos. Also, cameras usually come with editing software. However, these probably lack essential features to editing your photos. For the average user, Photoshop is overkill. The learning curve is steep, to say the least. It will allow you to transform a photograph completely. However, its tools are aimed at creative professionals. Even experts struggle to master it! If you have outgrown lesser photo-editing programs, Photoshop may be for you. There are no other programs in the same league. The first thing you should look for is ease of use. Try editing one of your photos. With any program, there will be a learning curve. But, you should be able to find the controls you need fairly easily.

  • Purchasing a Camera  By : Dan Feildman
If you are considering if you want a camera, you should set yourself a price agreement before going online or visiting an electronics shop. Purchasing a digital camera is just like getting any other large item like a house. There are thousands of options and often you can get puzzled. Before you go buying a gigantic high-end SLR camera, think about the smaller, yet more effective camera. High-end cameras offer the best zoom, the most added features and more megapixels. When you have more megapixels it doesn't mean you will have the best picture condition. As a beginner in the camera world it would be wise to not spend a huge about of money on a high on camera. It is better to look for less expensive, yet powerful, compact digital cameras that are a lot easier to hold and pack around. It is most recommended learn the basics with this digital camera and make sure you enjoy the hobby before spending extra money.

Using a telephoto lens to get in close to the action or sneak up on a subject from a discreet distance is terrifically exciting, and can yield great pictures. But the high magnification of long tele and zoom lenses accentuates the effects of camera shake caused by your inability to hold the camera and lens absolutely still. The effects of wind, moving or shaking floors, residual vibration from camera mirrors flipping up just prior to exposure, atmospheric haze, and heat waves can also add problems.
