Water Damage Causes Mold to Grow.

By: Tymon Hytem

It can happen in almost any home at any time of the year- water damage.  It is imperative to make sure to get any water out of your home as soon as possible.  The combination of moisture and humidity can cause mold to grow anywhere.  All mold needs is a source for food and anytime you have moisture, whether it be from a flood in your home or from excessive humidity, this will cause mold to take hold and grow.  It is these molds, if left untreated and thoroughly removed that can cause allergic reactions as well as illness to many people.
Back before we became so aware of molds, it was thought that just thoroughly cleaning using bleach and hot water and or repainting the area would remove the organism from you home.  This however is no longer the case because most of the time just cleaning the area will not remove the mold from your home.  Mold has to have some source of moisture to grow so if you are just cleaning the area and it keeps on coming back then you have a leak somewhere.  Without having the source of the leak found and repaired, you will continue to have this mold problem.
Once the source of the moisture is removed completely, then it is up to you to make sure that you do the right thing.  You need to determine if the damage done by the mold can be easily cleaned and completely removed or if you have to do some major wall board or carpet removal.  If you are unsure of the extent of the damage, then check with a professional.  It is possible that you might be able to have your carpets cleaned and just have the padding removed.
If you are unsure as to whether or not you have a mold problem in your home, the best thing that you can do is hire a professional to take a look.  If you have water damage due to a flood or some type of water overflow into your home, you should always hire a professional to check out the damage.  The quicker that you get this done, the less expensive that it will be to inspect, remove and repair that damages caused by water.
