Top 3 Foreign Films in Spanish

By: IC

Spanish films are beter identified by the way they describe human nature, sexuality and violence. Due to the diversity of places where this language is spoken, directors views change constantly. These films are normally produced in countries such as: Spain (Europe), Mexico, Colombia, Venezuela and Argentina.

Tango: As you can probaly deduce from this movie's name the plot line revolves around the sexy and sharp moves of the famous international dance called "Tango". This movie, with Argentinian roots, depicts the lives of dancers along with theri problems in such sensual driven sphere, however the film is not monotonous at all because the film has greater aims than the usual stories of passion and jealousy.

Amores Perros: The title of this film is roughly translated to "Love's a Bitch", it is an extremely violent, brutal and sadly realistic movie which portrays three different stories linked through an intelligent narrative. The opening of the film is quite disturbing due to the graphical nature of the "dog fighting scenes", but as established by this opening sequence, the movie contains several short scenes of brutality to describe the viciousness of human nature.

Y Tu Mama Tambien: This title is translated as an insult: "And Your Mother Too", the nature of this film is very sexual in nature. This film's popularity emerged due to its controversial story line. Many 80's movies portray the fetish young tenage males have towards older and sexy ladies but "never get some", this is not the case in this movie. Even later music videos show such situations which is the case of "Stacy's Mom". Due to all the sexual situatons the 3 main characters find themselves (2 tenage boys and a mature woman), the MPAA rated it R, but this doesn't mean that the movie lack a good plot. The movie explores several angles of human nature, psychology and sexuality which is combined with heart touching scenes throughout the roadtrip these characters are involved in.

The way situations are set in spanish movies tend to give a fresh spin to the alredy saturated concepts which are explored in great detail in English films. The most important concept to keep in mind when renting such movies is that they are mostly intended for an adult audience (18 years of age and older) since the human situations are very intense, uncensored and crude which results disturbing for some viewers with specific ideals about our nature.
