The most outstanding region in the Eastern Europe

By: Mathew Petrenko

Ukraine is located in Central Europe and it is a unitary state. Every province that included into this country has its own local authorities. The capital of Ukraine – Kiev and Sevastopol have the status of separate districts too. The consequence of the orange revolution which took place in 2004, is that Ukraine has got the status of semi-presidential republic. Nowadays the system of government in that country has a very interesting structure: the authority is redistributed between several branches of power. Ukraine borders on Bulgaria, Romania, Poland, Moldova and Hungary form the west, Turkey form the south; the Russian boundary is the longest one it is from North and East. There are Crimea and Carpathian mountains in Ukraine, Carpathian are considerably higher then Crimea mountains. Through the territory of Ukraine flows Dnieper, which is considered to be one of the longest rivers in Europe. Thanks to the river Ukraine has the most of its hydroelectric power. Ukraine has a quite mild climate, so the winters are not so cold here but some rivers and lakes are usually covered by ice. The unique climate in summer consists of a great amount of rainy days, but there are many shiny days too.

Agriculture is the area that is quite developed in this country. It is produced by such favorable climate terms. Ukraine is believed to be one of the largest exporters of sugar. In general, the country produces lots of produce: maize, corn, vegetables, fruit, etc. Kiev is the metropolis of Ukraine and the biggest city of this country. It dates its history since the 5th century. It was the little settlement which developed into the center of Slavic civilization in the Eastern Europe. The decline of development of Kiev was caused by the Mongolian invasion in the 13th century, the city was fully demolished for a quite long period. However, industrial revolution helped the city regain prominence. In period of the Soviet Union Kiev became the metropolis of Ukrainian Soviet Republic. The population of Kiev is increasing at a high rate and according to the census data in 2003 it was nearly 3 million people. We may not even approximately estimate the number of various nationalities that are comprised into this amazing city. More than 120 ethnic groups live here. During the 70s and 80s, the city saw constant growth in population which in turn reflected in the development of real estate. After the sovereignty there created new condominiums, expensive restaurants and five star hotels.

Ukraine economics gains power after the period of post Soviet problems. Today Ukraine is quite respectable country that is known not as a region of the Soviet Union, but as autonomous country. Ukraine is also going to become a participant of WTO after it endorses the agreement.
